Exclusive Interview: Allison Yee - ASICS Malaysia’s Female Brand Ambassador for 2025

Allison Yee - Inspiring Dreams, One Step at a Time

More than just a high-performing athlete, Allison Yee is also an influential voice in Malaysia's running and wellness community. With engaging content and a burning passion, she's cultivated a loyal following. Now, as ASICS Malaysia's brand ambassador, she continues her mission to inspire more women to live actively. We had the opportunity to interview her, and here's what she shared.

Congratulations on becoming the ASICS Malaysia Female Brand Ambassador! What does this role mean to you personally?
First of all, I’d like to thank ASICS for giving me this opportunity to be one of their ambassadors. As a female figure for the brand, my role is to continue empowering women of all ages, regardless of their fitness backgrounds, to keep chasing their dreams and goals.

What aspects of ASICS's brand values resonate most with you?
The ASICS brand value that resonates with me the most is their guiding philosophy—'Sound Mind, Sound Body.' It’s all about the idea that every time we push ourselves, break a sweat, and run out of breath, we feel happier. ASICS started with a simple belief: running isn’t just about workouts or competition. Sports are more than just games—they have the power to uplift our mental well-being.

What specific initiatives or campaigns are you most excited to be involved in with ASICS Malaysia?
Apart from competitive races, I’d love to be part of a campaign or program for aspiring young athletes. It would be great to help them understand the importance of balancing sports and studies, eating healthy, and maintaining overall well-being. I’d also love to see a program that involves their parents—getting them active together and strengthening their bond through sports.

Getting to Know Allison

What do you do for a living?
I'm now a full-time content creator, brand ambassador, and training full-time for racing. Up until last October, I was juggling a 9-to-5 job with overtime, but I finally took the leap to fully commit to my passion.

When and why did you start running?
I started running when I was around 17 or 18, though I’d say it was more about just staying active—jogging in the park near my house. Eventually, I joined a nearby gym, where I met some friends who had been into running for years. One of them signed me up for a local 10K, and that’s when everything changed. I completed my first-ever 10K and realized I had real potential in the sport. It was a huge shift—from being a couch potato just trying to lose some baby fat to actually believing I could do this.

How do you spend most of your time?
For now, I spend most of my time in training, content creation, filming, editing, attending events, and community runs.

How often or how far do you run per week?
It depends on the upcoming race. If I am training for a half marathon, my weekly mileage typically ranges from 70-80 km.

What's your favourite race distance?
Half marathon.

Where is your favourite place to run?
Kepong Metropolitan Park, Desa Park City, Melawati.

What are the must-have items that you carry during your run?
A sports watch and handphone.

Do you cross-train?
Yes, I train once a week under normal circumstances. But when I’m preparing for triathlons—which I’m planning to make a comeback in this year—it’s a whole different game. Training usually involves two disciplines in a day to build endurance and stay race ready.

What is the favourite song in your playlist right now?
GAIA Mix playlist on Spotify, and some trance.

What are your pre-race or post-race rituals?
Pre-race would include a flat lay, gear check, eating well, sleeping well, and thinking about what kind of content to film. Post-race would simply involve rest and editing my content.

Favourite running memory, run, or race?

Favourite running memory: Uitm Ultra 2025. It was my furthest run so far, and I won the championship. The course had nine hilly loops at midnight—I was vomiting and sleepy, but it was all worth it.

Favourite run: Tokyo Marathon 2024 with ASICS Malaysia. It was my first marathon outside Malaysia, and it was a World Major! I can still remember the cold.

Favourite race: KLSCM 2023—it was my “zero training” full marathon as I was working 24/7 at the time. Being said, it was my hardest run ever.

What is your running motto or slogan?
Don’t think, just run!

Have you ever DNF? Where? What happened?
I had a DNF back in 2016 or 2017 at an ITU triathlon race in the Philippines. I had a bad crash.

What are some of your running pet peeves (things that annoy you during a run)?
Road hogging and not giving way after being alerted, forcing me to stop and walk past.

Best running advice?
You don’t have to be great to start running—just be consistent!

Favourite running tip you’d pass along?
Don’t go too fast or do too much too soon. Don’t neglect your injuries.

Your running dream?
To run all the World Majors and still be able to run when I’m old.

What keeps you running?
I’d say myself—because it has already become a part of my lifestyle.

Finish this sentence: You know you are a runner when...
You wear a sports watch for a date!

What are your hopes or dreams for Malaysians’ healthy living?
I really hope schools encourage students to be more creative and active in co-curricular activities while also recognizing their efforts. It would be amazing to see parents getting more involved too, being active with their kids, and supporting them in their passions.

What are your upcoming athletic goals and competitions?
I aim to run a sub-3:30 full marathon, a sub-1:30 half marathon, and achieve a personal best in my upcoming Ironman Langkawi this year.

Wishing Allison much success in her partnership with ASICS Malaysia.
