Help Marathon Man To Break the Guinness Book of World Records!

Meet Marathon Man aka Trent Morrow from Australia. We caught up with him at the finish line of Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon last year. Not easy running a 42km in a suit like that, eh?

Trent has just completed his 100th marathon and is trying to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the most marathons run in a year. He is doing this without a major sponsor all on his own.

If you can help with any donation to keep his dream alive or would like to sponsor go to his website: Every donation helps to keep him going to the next race. http://marathonman.com.au/

Press Release: XtraMile Run 2013 - Stomping Out Poverty, One Step at a Time

Three ultra-marathoners run 100km across Klang Valley to raise funds for the benefit of underprivileged kids at Dignity for Children foundation.

KUALA LUMPUR, August 25, 2013 – It was a long but purposeful 17-hour journey all through the night for Alex Au-Yong, Kyle Tan and Daniel Lee as they ran 100km across Klang Valley to raise funds for the children of Dignity for Children Foundation.

Themed ‘Run for Dignity’, the XtraMile Run 2013 aimed to raise awareness and interest amongst Malaysians to support the education initiatives of Dignity for Children Foundation.

This is the second time Alex has run 100km for charity. The inaugural 100km XtraMile Run was held in 2011 where he successfully raised an outstanding amount of RM111,000 for StART Society*.

This year, Alex and two of his like-minded friends – Kyle Tan and Daniel Lee – came together in the spirit of giving back and ran to give education to the poor and underprivileged kids of Dignity for Children.

Daniel Lee is an upcoming para-athlete, who was born with osteogenesis imperfecta - a condition also known as “brittle bones disease”.

Close to 160 runners ran alongside Alex, Kyle and Daniel in relay style at 10km, 13km, 26km, 31km stretches of the 100km run. Through this run, the runners expressed solidarity in making a loud and clear statement – “educate the poor, stomp out poverty.”

The runners flagged off at Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside and made their way through pit stops at Shaftsbury Cyberjaya, Sunway Pyramid, Dignity for Children Foundation learning center in Sentul, Menara Maybank on Jalan Tun Perak, Lake Gardens and ended at Athlete's Circle, Jaya One.

“If someone asks you to go one mile, go with him the extra mile. This saying has been my inspiration for the run. Running 100km for the children of Dignity is my extra mile,” said Au-Yong, a brand manager at Athlete’s Circle Malaysia.

“We chose Dignity for Children Foundation as our beneficiary because we believe in their vision to break the cycle of poverty through education. They are doing an excellent job in transforming the lives of underprivileged children. With the funds raised, we can empower the children with quality education and life skills. In essence, we’re giving them the opportunity to change their destiny,” said Au-Yong.

Members of the public came to show their support and cheered the runners on. Pit stop activities featured symbolic acts such as “Light their Way” where candles were lit along the way of the runners and children. Runners and supporters also stomped on a banner printed “POVERTY” to signify them stomping poverty out of the lives of these children.

The run also featured the XtraOrdinary Walk for disabled XtraMilers such as Cheryl Mohan and Daniel Lee – to convey the message that anyone can be an XtraMiler, regardless of race, creed or ability.

“Our aim is not only to impact our community, but to inspire others to do the same. I believe that everyone can be an XtraMiler. Impacting our community is not one man’s job. This run sends a powerful message – let’s all go the extra mile for those in need,” said Daniel Lee, who has been wheelchair-bound since the age of two.

Corporate sponsors including Maybank, FrogAsia, Quanterm Logistics, Ford and Carolyn’s School of Rhythmic Gymnastics have caught the vision of the XtraMile Run by sponsoring both monetarily and in kind.

“We think it’s enough to just give them food and books, but it doesn’t work that way. Education for the poor is not charity. It is intervention, transformation and development. We are thankful for all the corporations and individuals who have supported us through the XtraMile Run. The funds generated will help us make a difference and give dignity back to the children,” said Elisha Satvinder, Chairman of Dignity for Children Foundation.

The XtraMile Run 2013 successfully raised a total of RM138,425.00 in public and corporate donations. All the funds raised were channeled to benefit 135 preschool children and 141 secondary school students under Dignity for Children Foundation.

Press Release: World’s Best Face-Off in Star-studded Hanoi Vertical Run

Hanoi, Vietnam, 11 September 2013 – The world's best vertical runners will be hitting the stairs of Hanoi’s Landmark 72 on Sunday for the Hanoi Vertical Run, where hundreds of participants have registered to conquer the tallest skyscraper in the nation’s capital.

Vietnam’s only stair climbing race has been selected as an official race for the 2013 Vertical World Circuit (VWC), the world’s premier skyscraper racing circuit, uniting some of the world’s most iconic skyscraper races, including the Empire State Building Run-Up in New York City. Runners who participate in the VWC will be assigned points based on their result, with the male and female competitors with the total highest scores at the end of the year being declared world champion.

Heading the men’s elite race is reigning world champion Thomas Dold of Germany. Dold is the undisputed king of stair climbing, and a seven-time winner of the prestigious Empire State Building Run-Up in New York City.

His main competition should come from Mark Bourne of Australia, as he enters Hanoi undefeated on this year’s circuit, after his win in the New York and Taipei earlier this year.

Other international entrants include Belgium’s Omar Bekkali, who will wear the number 1 race bib as last year’s champion and holds the course record at 10 minutes and 6 seconds.

Meanwhile, an equally competitive women's field square off for the title. Reigning world champion, Suzy Walsham, who won last year’s race, assumes the mantle of pre-race favourite.

The Australian, was an 800m semi-finalist at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Her main competitor should come from Melissa Moon of New Zealand, who won the prestigious Empire State Building Run-Up in 2012.

Moon, also a two time world mountain running champion, is no stranger to running in Asia, winning in Taipei and Singapore in 2010 and looks ready for a good time in what will only be her third race of the year.

"The quality of the international field that turns out every year for this event is a sign of how well regarded it is," said Race Director David Shin of Sporting Republic.

“These athletes are among the most exciting in the sport, not only with their fast times, but with their proven ability to win on the biggest races in the world. We have two returning champions in Dold from 2011 and Walsham, with her memorable victory last year. They are the ones to beat, but they'll have their work cut out for them against deep competition."

"It is the 2nd year of the event but also the 3rd time Vietnam has been a part of the Vertical World Circuit in Vietnam. We are looking forward to celebrating that, and I am sure the elite field will put on a great show for everyone in Vietnam and show what top-end vertical running is all about."

First Look: Maybank Wild Tiger Run Finisher Medal and Notice Of Date Change

Note: Mr. Tiger measures 10cm in height.

Dear Runners,

We have some news to share with you.

Let’s start with the good news – Maybank has agreed to come on board as the title sponsor, so we are now known as the Maybank Wild Tiger Run. This is wonderful as ultimately, we hope to raise funds from this Run. As per Maybank’s request, the run route may be altered slightly to loop past Menara Maybank.

We’d also like to introduce here Mr. Tiger, our 10km finisher medal for this Run. He is actually a keychain and will have a lanyard clipped on, which you can then detach and make full use of this medal.

Now for the not-so-good part – we regret to inform you that during our process of permit applications, we've been informed by the authorities that three other runs will also be held on 10 November, all within KL.

Based upon the advice of DBKL and the traffic police, we are required to change the date of our run. We are now in the midst of obtaining approval to hold the Maybank Wild Tiger Run on 9 November (Saturday) instead; same place, same time. UPDATE: Venue has been changed to Bukit Jalil Park as announced in a press con on 17 Sept 2013.

We truly apologise for this unfortunate turn of events, and hope that you would still be able to join us on 9 November. In the event that you are unable to participate on the new date of 9 November, we would like to offer you the following options:

1. Maintain your registration and receive the T-shirt (all participants) and finisher medal (only 10km participants) by post. We will absorb the cost of postage;

2. Donate your registration amount to tigers; OR

3. Receive a full refund.
Naturally, there will be changes to the race pack collection and Tiger Expo dates. We will update you once we confirm the dates.

Thank you for your understanding.

Warm regards,
MYCAT Secretariat's Office Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers (MYCAT)

Press Release: Nike Tech Fleece Collection featuring Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova

Nike Tech Pack debut with its first installment–the Nike Tech Fleece Collection.

Malaysia, August 27th 2013 – For Fall/Holiday 2013, Nike updates classic styles with a revolutionary reinvention of the fabric of sport: fleece. Evolving the fit, feel, and function of Nike’s most iconic sportswear silhouettes, the Nike Tech Fleece Collection represents the next generation of classic sport apparel.

The Nike Tech Fleece fabric offers the ultimate in lightweight warmth that responds to the natural motion of the wearer. Plush foam placed between layers of cotton jersey creates a tri-layer fabric that provides the ultimate in comfort and warmth when needed.

The smooth jersey facing gives the garments a modern, streamlined look both inside and out, while the inner foam enhances the fleece’s functionality. It is lighter, warmer, more breathable than its predecessors, and looks as good as it performs.

To highlight the ground-breaking fabric, each style was stripped down to its essential elements and rebuilt from the inside out. Arms were articulated for enhanced mobility while restructuring helped slim the silhouettes and reduced overall topstitching and seaming.

Additionally, traditional ribbed cuffs were replaced by black elastic micro binding for a snug, ergonomic fit and updated appearance that complements bold black zippers and a traditional grey palette.

The collection’s backbone, the Nike Tech Fleece Windrunner, revamps our most iconic jacket. Available for both men and women, it combines a full-zip front with side zip pockets and elastic micro binding at the hem. Plus, the women’s version features thumbholes at the cuffs for enhanced hand coverage.

The Nike Tech Fleece N98 and Nike Tech Fleece AW77 are updated with a seam-bound—instead of stitched—kangaroo pocket for a clean appearance, enhanced access, and more spacious storage.

The left chest features a zip pocket suggestive of the Nike Destroyer Jacket, but even bolder with a bonded zipper and two internal media pockets for digital devices, phones, and more—all of the elements of modern life on the streets.

Similarly, the Nike Tech Fleece Crew retains its timeless cut while a kangaroo pocket and variable ribbed hem add to its contemporary feel.

Pushing the classic hoody into the future and specially crafted for women, the Nike Tech Fleece Hoodie and Nike Tech Fleece Cape introduce a slightly thinner fleece for enhanced drape. Boasting an oversized funnel neck that can be worn as a hoody or cowl, the Nike Tech Fleece Hoodie presents a toggle at the neck, side zip pockets, a bound hem, and thumbholes at the cuffs.

The Nike Tech Fleece Cape pushes the shape even further by combining the same detailing with an off-center zip and unconventional line that includes an exaggerated dropped back hem.

The women’s Nike Tech Fleece Pants offer a classic bottom featuring an elastic waist and cuffs, with zippers at the hem for easy on and off over shoes. The men’s Nike Tech Fleece Pants provide the same easy fit along with a draw cord waistband, open side pockets, and inset construction for enhanced knee articulation.

It’s everyday sportswear made innovative for everyday life. It’s the modern look of sport. The Nike Tech Pack, Tech Fleece Collection will be available Aug. 29 at your local Nike Sportswear retailers.

Apart from Rafa Nadal & Maria Sharapova, the Nike Tech Fleece debut also features few others world class athletes like Rory McIlroy, Matt Kemp, Kyrie Irving, Adrian Peterson, Alexander Ovechkin, Jon Jones, Neymar Jr., Allyson Felix, Perry Shakes-Drayton, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, Kevin Prince Boateng, Paul Rodriguez and Li Na.

Check 'em all out HERE.
